The network's Top New Show of This Year Secures a Major Extension for an Additional Two Seasons.
Last October, the late-night programming block welcomed back its offbeat hit, Smiling Friends. However, later that same month, the channel introduced a completely new animated series with a strikingly different vibe. Haha, You Clowns emerged as gentle and comforting, in the spirit of a animated take of a serene talk show. A Two-Season Greenlight
In mid-December, the network confirmed a big renewal: Haha, You Clowns has been picked up for two additional seasons. This provides showrunner Joe Cappa a massive runway to further explore the story of the Campbell family. The show centers on three well-mannered teenage brothers whose central trait is their strong bond for their single father, with Cappa voicing for all four key characters.
"I’m so grateful to the viewers of the show who welcomed the series and shared it with others," remarked Cappa. "I’m incredibly thrilled that I get to hang out at the Campbell household for a little longer."
A President's Endorsement
The official statement also included commendation from Adult Swim president Michael Ouweleen, who described the series as "radically heartfelt and oddly captivating." He thanked the fans who embraced the show and supported its peculiarly charming sensibility.
"All of you showed up for this new show, praised it on social media, and grew it week over week so we could approve not one, but two more seasons," noted Ouweleen. "As the show says: 'You are strong! You are loved!'"
A Different Kind of Comedy
When it first aired, Haha, You Clowns was described as "a comforting antidote" to more cynical adult animated fare. It offers something surprisingly comfy about observing this endearing family navigate their daily lives.
In earlier interviews, creator Joe Cappa stated his hope to evolve comedy past its prevailing sarcastic tone. He linked this trend to various cultural shifts.
“There's this level of irony that we can't get ourselves out of,” explained Cappa. “It's like we have to know we’re the smartest person in the room when we're watching stuff. I feel like we've been doing this for a decade, and we must laugh at something different now. It's time for comedy to grow.”

Now, with Haha, You Clowns guaranteed to return, Cappa may well catalyze that change he described. If nothing else, the renewal promises audiences a little more time to experience the heartfelt moments of the unique Campbell clan.
The first season's conclusion of Haha, You Clowns is scheduled to air on December 21st. The entire series is ready to watch on HBO Max.
