The Latest Casual Playlist Sparks Heated Debates Regarding Bots, XP Rewards, and Queue Times

Over the weekend, the game developers introduced a fresh game mode titled Casual Breakthrough. To put it simply, this option resembles the standard Breakthrough format but includes a few notable adjustments:

  • Each team has just eight human participants, with the remaining filled by 32 bots.
  • Activities done by real players award complete experience points, while bot actions offer lower rewards.
  • Just a pair of locations can be played: Cairo Siege and Empire State.
  • Elements like Player tags, accolades, and stat tracking have been turned off.

So essentially, the playlist lives up to its title: it's a laid-back take of Breakthrough. On the surface, one could assume it's a good idea, since it gives more options for gamers looking for different ways to have fun with the title. However, if video games have taught us anything, it's that you can't please everyone. In other words, many BF6 players are mad.

Community Reactions: Anger to Support

"Gamers prefer human opponents. Avoid making the errors of your competitors," reads a response to the mode reveal. "Truly disappointing idea," says another. At the same time, in community forums, a player remarks, "It's unclear where we are going with this title," while another lists all the issues they believe to be problematic in the game: "Resolve glitches, fix drone glitch, fix IVF rockets, fix [the] bloom after sprinting bug, improve hit detection. We do not require this bot mode."

However, amid the criticism, there are players explaining how much they're liking the new mode. "It's very fun to practice, human participants keep it from being a complete grind but it's very relaxed," reads one Reddit comment. "The community fails to see that there are players who have lives and don't play this game all the time. Let them strike a balance," adds a different comment. One reply on Twitter explains that as they're "a parent gamer with limited time, this is great for me," and another praises the mode for "not being overcompetitive."

Constructive Criticisms and Player Feedback

All that said, players have constructive reasons to complain about Casual Breakthrough. A few folks have highlighted that it could increase queue times more extended for other modes because of the large amount of playlists in the game already. On a similar note, some areas already encounter AI-filled matches in the current modes. It also seems somewhat counterintuitive that the mode won't start without a required amount of real players, despite it primarily centers on fighting AI opponents.

Lastly, a major complaints is that a previous feature was meant to offer complete rewards, including AI matches, but that was removed when they attempted to remove bot farms from the mode. Thus this new playlist seems like the player base meeting them halfway, according to forum feedback. A different user labels this mode as the devs "dropping the ball so hard, I had great enjoyment in the initial release, why did they feel the need to adjust it?"

Future Prospects: Will Changes Be Made?

If the development team has proven anything so far with Battlefield 6, it's that they're paying attention and responding to player input. Assignments being too difficult were adjusted rapidly, as did the required Redsec challenges. It is likely that, if their data indicates this recent mode is underperforming to their standards, they won't be shy to make further modifications.
