The Hit Drama Announced for 7th Series on the British Broadcaster
The beloved crime series Line of Duty will make a comeback for its seventh season, announced by the BBC.
An upcoming six-episode season written by the show's creator starts production in Northern Ireland this spring, as confirmed by the network.
Vicky McClure shared her enthusiasm about the return, stating she was "so excited" about the series' return. Adrian Dunbar added, "What a joy it is to know that the main trio will be back filming together soon."
The previous series wrapped up in recent years with a final episode that drew in over 17 million viewers. Speculation about a potential return have been circulating for some time, but confirmation only arrived recently.
Fresh Obstacles for The Team
The seventh season begins with the anti-corruption unit no longer existing and renamed as the Inspectorate of Police Standards, according to the announcement.
Martin Compston's character, Kate Fleming, and Ted Hastings continue working to tackle corruption within the law enforcement.
The team's mission "has never been more difficult", and in this climate, the trio will take on their "most sensitive case to date."
Fresh Face and Intricate Plot
An additional officer, DI Dominic Gough, portrayed as a charismatic officer celebrated for takedowns of organized crime, faces allegations of misusing his authority to act as a offender.
However, his case could be a intentional diversion from a bigger threat still operating in the background, the teaser suggested.
Speaking about the renewal, the creator said: "All cast and crew feels enormous gratitude to the show's fans."
"We're privileged to have had countless followers track the developments of AC-12 over multiple series and we are thrilled to be coming back for a new season."
He added: "Corruption in this country is supposed to have ended while the series was not airing, so I've been forced to use my imagination."
Cast Reactions
Martin Compston called appearing in the series as "the role of a career".
"Beyond the program's popularity but the people I've worked with I now call some of my closest friends."
"I can't wait to wear the uniform again and reunite with everyone," he said.
Vicky McClure remarked: "It goes without saying I'm very happy the show is returning! Eager to work with Jed, Compston and Adrian again. Belfast, we'll be there shortly!"
The veteran actor noted: "As we count down the unit return, what a joy it is to know that the central trio will be working together soon."
"Delighted with the announcement and anticipating those mercurial twists and turns."
Series Legacy
Line of Duty premiered in the early 2010s and evolved into one of the most popular TV dramas of the past ten years, attracting notable actors such as Thandiwe Newton.
The BBC has not yet announced when the upcoming series will hit screens.
The conclusion of series six drew the extended plot about the hunt for criminal mastermind known as "the mysterious H" to a close, and the creative team said at the time there were no plans for additional seasons.
Nevertheless, the network announced on Tuesday that a new season is now being produced.
