The former Liverpool manager admits a return to lead Liverpool is conceivable.
Jurgen Klopp, who left Anfield in 2024, indicated that a future comeback is an option. Klopp, following a hugely successful near-decade reign that included continental glory and the Reds’ first league title in 30 years, now holds positions overseeing worldwide football within the Red Bull organization and providing guidance to Germany's league body.
Supporters’ Hopes and His Frank Comments
The club claimed the Premier League under Arne Slot, yet numerous supporters holding him in high esteem would embrace the notion that he might come back one day. In a wide-ranging interview, he told Steven Bartlett: “I declared I will never coach any other side within the country. So that means in case it's my former club...yes. In theory, it could happen.”
“I’m 58, which suggests I could make the decision down the line, who knows. Is a decision required immediately? In that case, I'd stay away. But thank God, I don’t have to do that. I'll wait and observe what lies ahead.”
What Would Lure Him Back?
Questioned regarding what circumstances would have to unfold to draw him back to the touchline, Klopp admitted he was not instantly drawn to such a return. “I'm not entirely sure, My present work fulfills me,” he commented. “I don’t miss coaching; I avoid standing under bad weather through long matches; No need for press conferences four times, three times a week or having 10-12 interviews each week.
“I don’t miss the dressing room per se, but sitting in a restaurant with the players enjoying conversation, is pleasant. We won a lot of games thus frequently positive atmosphere in the building. Remaining with me is the captain's chuckle vividly recalled to illustrate.”
Commending Arne Slot
He commended for his successor, acknowledging his role for the adjustments that won the league last term. Liverpool have lost four in a row across various tournaments following significant transfers, yet he dismissed the suggestion that it might signal the start of a downward turn.
“[Liverpool have] a phenomenal forward in Flo[rian] Wirtz, you will all eat your words with negative comments. A remarkable prospect. [Hugo] Ekitike, incredible player. This is a well-built balanced team. Fans shouldn't fret over the club, they'll bounce back.”
Emotional Tribute for Diogo Jota
Klopp also spoke emotionally regarding the passing of the Portuguese star, a 2020 acquisition during his tenure, along with the consequences for the team. The forward died tragically in a car crash together with his sibling recently.
“Who can fill the void of somebody like Diogo? This isn't just regarding his on-field talent, it's his character. I struggle to conceive the team environment without him in it. Putting it into words is tough on this topic. A devastating blow for his teammates as well. Nobody at Liverpool will ever use it to justify results though it's a fact. Entering the changing area where he was omnipresent. Handling this on a personal level is not easy. Unbearable.”
