'Our Mission Is Exclusively Killing' - The Way The Sudanese Vicious Militia Carried out a Mass Killing
Warning: This Account Presents Graphic Accounts of Killings.
Fighters laugh as they travel on the bed of a utility vehicle, racing past a line of multiple dead bodies and driving facing the descending Sudanese evening sky.
"Observe such effort. See this instance of mass destruction," one exclaims.
The fighter grins as he directs the recording device on his person and his companion fighters, their RSF identification clearly shown: "They are all going to be killed in this manner."
The combatants are rejoicing over a mass killing that aid workers fear resulted in the deaths of over 2,000 civilians in the African city of the Darfur city during October.
A City Cut Off from the Globe
Following their control of the city under siege for approximately an extended period, from August the militia proceeded to consolidate its dominance and restrict the leftover residents.
Space-based imagery show that troops began to construct a massive earth barrier - a built-up sand barrier - encircling the perimeter of al-Fashir, sealing off entry points and halting humanitarian assistance.
As the siege escalated, 78 people were killed in an paramilitary strike on a religious building on mid-September, while the international organization reported dozens additional were slain in aerial and heavy weapon attacks on a displacement camp in fall.
Disturbing Footage Depicts Weaponless People Executed
By sunrise on 26 October the militia overwhelmed the last army strongholds and took control of the main headquarters in the urban area, the command center of the Army Division, as the army pulled back.
Perhaps the most graphic videos to emerge and studied revealed the results of a atrocity at a educational facility on the western side of the urban area, where numerous lifeless forms were visible spread over the area.
An older individual clad in a robe sat isolated amid the bodies. The man rotated to gaze as a combatant carrying with a weapon walked down the steps towards him. Raising his weapon, the fighter fired a single shot at the victim, who dropped to the surface still.
"How come is this individual even alive," a fighter cried. "Execute this person."
Satellite images taken on late October seemed to confirm that killings were also carried out on the roads of the city, according to a report released by the academic research center.
One witness who communicated reported the individual had seen "multiple of our family members being massacred - they were assembled in one place and each one murdered."
Militia Officers Try to Carry Out Reputation Management
In the days that followed the atrocity, militia commander acknowledged that his forces had carried out "wrongdoings" and said the occurrences would be investigated.
Part of the detained was following a report recording his killings. Deliberately orchestrated and modified video published on the militia's official Telegram platform show the individual being led into a prison room at a jail on the edges of the city.
At the same time, the militia and connected social media channels began attempting to reframe the account.
Content showing its fighters providing assistance to inhabitants were circulated by some accounts, while the militia's media office published several videos claiming to show the humane treatment of military prisoners of war.
Regardless of the social media effort being deployed by the RSF, their conduct in the city have sparked worldwide condemnation.
