Chiefs State They Are Aware of Domestic Violence Claims Involving Wide Receiver the Athlete
The NFL franchise issued a statement Wednesday night stating they have knowledge of claims of abuse circulated in online accounts by a former girlfriend of player the athlete and were in contact with the league office.
The team omitted the name of Rice by name in their statement and stated they would have “no further comment at this time”.
Allegations Posted on Social Media
The woman, who likewise did not name Rice directly, posted a series of photos on Instagram that appeared to show signs of physical abuse. She stated the person involved was the father of her children, and it is known she has two children with Rice, whom the Chiefs selected in the 2023 draft.
Police Reports Reportedly Unavailable
No official complaints were available in the Kansas City suburb where the incident is said to have occurred.
Rice's Recent Off-Field Troubles
Rice missed the first six games of this NFL campaign due to an NFL suspension for his involvement in causing a crash on a Texas roadway that left multiple people hurt. Rice was given 30 days in jail and probationary supervision after pleading guilty to felony charges.
Statistically, Rice finished the year with 53 receptions for 571 receiving yards and five touchdowns as the Chiefs went 6-11 and missed the playoffs for the first occasion in a ten-year span.
